Old Release
Ok I have another release. This version is sort of a bug fixer. As well It is now easier for 2G and European (maybe non North American too) to install TweakEEE (because some of their eeepc don’t come with a few packages that other ones do). I had actually released a little 0.2.2 last night but there were still some bugs, so I didn’t make a post. I’ll combine the changes for both releases in the appropriate section. For information see changes below.

Feature Updates/Fixes:
- Added Default theme Taskbar BG color changing. As of now only your Own Custom downloaded themes won’t change taskbar color [0.2.2]
- Changed download management for files to check filesize. This will now work with non english eeepc. Additionally it is actually a little faster to check while download is commencing (bonus)[0.2.2]
- Fixed the Change Computer Name feature which was causing such a scary DCOP error. (I wouldn’t mind this being verified, but I’m almost 100% sure it is fixed) [0.2.3]
- Fixed the AsusLauncher Download, I think. (I would like a European user to verify this please) [0.2.3]
- Added a fix_tweakeee script that can be called if you install, execute and nothing happens. (If a 2G or european user could verify my script works for them after a factory reset that would be great, it works for me at least) [0.2.3]
FAQ: TweakEEE Isn’t Opening after I install
If you are one of those 2G or European owners, (and even non North American perhaps, hard to keep track of which EEE’s sold in which regions are bundled with what software and libraries) and you install TweakEEE and then execute the program but nothing happens, then you will have to follow these steps.
- Open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + t)
- Enter the command
fix_tweakeee - Make sure you have an internet connection before starting. It will ask you for a secret word. The secret word is tweak
- Now it will wget some deb packages from the official asus xandros repos. Let it do it’s magic. It will say you can start tweakeee when done
- When it is done, either click the tweakeee icon in Settings or enter the command
tweakeee

Thanks:
A Thanks goes out to eeeuser community. If it weren’t for them this program would have never been made. Also a special thanks goes out to SublimePorte of eeeuser community. I asked him a variety of questions about installers, deb packages, and some shell scripting stuff as well. Another Thanks to Zinni from ZinniDesigns, who created a nice looking Theme package which is used in the program (beta version 0.2+).

Hi,
I have a french 4g, and I had to manually install python-cairo before running your fix-tweakeee script after a factory reset, maybe you should add it in the next version…

Thanks very much for letting me know. I will be adding this to the next version.
unmet dependencies suddenly after working with tweakeee and I suspect that adding depositories are involved?/
I have 12 installs showing up in my add remove software which give me
‘unmet dependencies’ try ‘apt-get-f install’ with no packages (or specify a solution)
when I do ‘apt—–’ I get ‘command not found’
Is this connected with tweaky or totally unrelated? I posted also on the http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=175773#p175773
I don’t believe this is related at all to tweakeee. The Deb package on tweakeee also isn’t set to have dependencies. Eeeuser forums are the best bet, so keep searching.
So, how does one install tweakeee?
I ran “sudo apt-get install tweakeee_0.2.3-0.i386″, but the package could not be found.

did you download it from the link above? If so then open a file manager, browse to the location that the *.deb file is located, right click and choose install.
Thank you for this great utility.!
The Weather component wouldn’t install for me, it said to let you know! “Error: This is wierd and happens when eeeweather isn’t in the startup script. Let Marf know.”
Also I somehow have two Tweakees icons on my EEE. Is there a way to remove one of them, please?
Ok, so I think it installed. Do you get that error when you click ‘Apply’? If so then can you open “startsimple.sh”. You can use the dropdown box in the upper left to open the file.
Once you open the file find the line eeeweather XXXX …. & There might be some stuff in place of the dots. Anyways when you find that line can you paste it in here. If you can’t find the line, follow my instructions here http://www.infinitedesigns.org/archives/189#comments
Ohh, and the second icon can be removed by using emeditor, or just open up Simpleui.rc and scroll down to the bottom. There you will see two identical remove one of the TweakEEE parcels then save and close.
Thank you very much, the second icon has gone now.
I followed your directions from the link you gave for the eeeweather program. When I clicked “Apply” the error message did not appear. After filling in the country and city fields and clicking Apply it seemed that it would work, but no icon has appeared. I have rebooted twice.
I have typed both “eeeweather” and “sudo eeeweather” in the command line, but it returns a message “eeeweather: command not found”. When I look in Tweakee at the weather tab, the location information I input is no longer there.
P.S. When I checked in the startsimple.sh file, the entry I made after minimixer had changed itself into “eeeweather -g LFBI &”
Also, this line in the file is offset to the left, and not aligned with all the other lines.
Hrm, well the entry is correct in startsimple.sh
However you say that when you type in the terminal “eeeweather” and it says command not found, this immediately tells me that it wasn’t installed in your machine. So lets install it.
1. Open a terminal (Ctrl + alt + t)
2. enter the command wget http://www.infinitedesigns.org/eeepc/eeeweather_0.56-1_i386.deb
3. then once done, enter sudo dpkg -i eeeweather_0.56-1_i386.deb
4. Now enter “eeeweather” in the terminal and the program should start.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks.
When I reached step 4 of your directions, an icon briefly appeared in the task bar, but as soon as I closed the terminal it disappeared. I thought it might be because I have a long date/time format, so I reduced that, but the icon will only stay as long as the terminal is open.
It’s OK now that I have rebooted.
Thanks for your patience.
