Scanline Text - Step 1
1. Create a new 165×165 pixel document and name it Scanline Text. Now press D fill the document (with Black). Create a new layer, then, create a horizontal type mask, press X and then fill (with white). Then apply a drop shadow with THESE SETTINGS.

Scanline Text - Step 2
2. Then apply an inner shadow with THESE SETTINGS. Then apply a bevel and emboss with THESE SETTINGS.

Scanline Text - Step 3
3. Yes, more blending options. Apply a satin with THESE SETTINGS. Then apply a pattern overlay with THESE SETTINGS. Now the pattern you select is one pixel black, one pixel transparent. You can download the pattern here. Then [1.click on the down arrow, 2. then to the right of the popup window where there is a circle with an arrow, click that, 3. then ‘Load Patterns’.] If none of that made sense, thats good. those numbers correspond to THIS PICTURE to help you on your way.

Scanline Text - Step 4
4. Lastly, apply a stroke with THESE SETTINGS. That gives the text the outline it needed. Now you should have come cool looking text. If you want it on a black background, just change the drop shadow to white, and the blending mode to normal.

Hi I must be a complete simpleton but when I follow the steps the whole background looks like the text should with the text mask blinking, when I move it I get a text that is black and inset into the second layer. Please tell me where I am going wrong as I know it is about step 1 or 2
